technology no-no

i can hear her before i open the door.

my shoes click-clack on the miniature tiles as i enter the first stall.

"oh wow, gosh, i can't believe that," a voice two stalls down echoes in the normally quiet ladies' room.

i think to myself, oh wow. i cannot believe you have your PHONE in the BATHROOM. ew.

bathroom sounds and cell phones do not mix people. i don't care who you are. stop it. just STOP it.

have american's been so completely overrun by schedules and appointments that we cannot even pee in peace?

seriously.

why do we constantly have to be playing with our phones, texting or social-network stalking our friends?

don't even get me started on all you iPhone users and your freaking "apps."

i was sitting at one of my favorite orlando restaurant's this week (tijuana flats - mmm...) and a child, about age 10 begins to slowly approach my table. i look at the girl, look at my boyfriend who is seated across from me and look back at the child as she continues to drift directly toward the edge of my table. i feared for my burrito's last bites. she altered course after only hesitating for a nano-second from her texting-or-whatever she was doing with her hand-held digital wonder while mommy and daddy gleefully ushered her out the door.

it would have brought such joy to my heart to see a book in her hands.
